The story of J’s Place and their down-home Southern cooking really is a family story. A mother with recipes from her mother, her three sons, all with no prior restaurant experience, opened J’s Place in July of 2006 on Ming Avenue in Bakersfield. Vicki Hill and her sons wanted to share the wonderful food they had enjoyed for decades from recipes by her mother, Lora Bolden of Oklahoma.
People came time and again for the wonderful down home food and the business grew. J’s Place needed a bigger location to accommodate their customers. Vicki’s son Dirk said, we found our new location, believed in Christ and opened our doors.
The secret behind the wonderful food of J’s Place is simple. Authentic family recipes and cooking everything from scratch using quality ingredients every day. We prepare food for you with love from our family to yours.
J’s Place, family owned and operated by Vicki’s son Dirk Johnson and his wife Tina Johnson. They welcome you to come on down and enjoy authentic Southern style cooking. We serve you with friendly hospitality and hope you enjoy every bite as much as we do.
June 2016 Update:
The mantle of J’s Place has now been lovingly passed on to Chef Ray Ingram by Dirk and Tina Johnson. Chef Ray was there at the beginning of J’s Place as an advisor and he pledges to continue the tradition of wonderful, authentic food that is J’s Place.
